Resolved Question: Will this harm me or my baby, and does it sound right? Please answer?...?

I am 24 weeks 3 days. I have put on nearly a stone now from my pre-pregnancy weight (13lbs exactly). I was 10 stone 4 lbs before pregnancy and now I'm 11 stone 3lbs. I'm 5 ft 7 inches tall. I just wondered if this is ok? I seem to have had a sudden spurt and my tummy is much more pronounced now too. I'm worrying I'm putting on too much too early. Also my appetite seems to have changed a lot and now I'm constantly craving biscuits and chocolate, where as up until around 20 weeks I didn't want to go near chocolate and things like that. I am eating good things too, ie cereal with milk, taking my vitamins every day, lean mince beef, vegetables, salad, chicken, rice etc on an evening, I'm just concerned where this sudden urge for sweet things has come from and what the effects are going to be. Do I sound ok to you and do any of you have these problems with chocolate and sweet cravings too. I thought I'd escaped all that, with not wanting it the first 5 months or so, but obviously not. Any opinions? Many thanks. more

Resolved Question: Does this sound as though my iron levels are low?.....?

I am now 22 weeks pregnant. Up until my 16 week appt my midwife said everything was fine, but I've heard your blood levels increase a lot after that and sometimes you don't take in enough iron to supplement it. I am trying to eat iron rich foods and the prenatal vitamin I've been taking throughout contain 14mg of iron, but I've read you need about 30mg at this stage. I'm extremely tired, unable to concentrate very well, I'm very moody and up and down and this morning cried over god knows what for half an hour while sitting at my desk. I know hormones are a big factor in pregnancy, but I've read nearly 75% of pregnant women begin seeing signs of lack of iron around this stage. It's always easier for me to get in to see my doctor so should I just ask if he'll check it for me. My midwife that I've been seeing previously has now passed a lot of us over to a new one now as they are 'delegating' so I don't even know the new one as I don't see her until the 11th June. more

Resolved Question: How did you combat your morning sickness?

Im nearly 6 weeks pregnant, and it feel like every time I move I feel sick! I haven't actually vomited yet, but today in the restaurant I was sooo close to running to the toilet. Luckily I ordered some milk and put my travel bands on in that instant and after a while it started to go again. I was going to try and eat healthily this pregnancy, but honestly, all i seem to be able to eat is ginger biscuits and milk! And cereal too! Which is a bit worrying because I am scared I am not giving my baby enough nutrients to develop. I am taking pre natal vitamins though. What do you think I should do?Elisha, you suck! more

Resolved Question: Iodine in pregnancy vitamin vs. overactive Thyroid?

I am 8 weeks pregnant taking Pregnacare as a vitamin and took folic acid before conceiving. Had overactive thyroids (graves disease)before, still taking propycil (100mg)for it and my hormones are within the normal range now and said to come off of medication gradually. Just discovered the pregnancy supplement I am taking contains IODINE almost 100% of RDA which I am not meant to take in any forms if having overactive thyroids. My next blood test is in 2 months(!!!!??)(so much for the for the closer eye...)my midwife has no idea, my doc is not ringing back so far- shall I just take folic acid and leave the full vitamins or not to worry? Thanks for all docs! more

Resolved Question: I found this and thought?

thought it would make everyone laugh......lighten the mood a little good luck ladies Okay, I know you all have at least ONE strange/silly habit in the two week wait! Here are some of mine and others I've heard of from friends TTC. PLEASE HELP ME add to this list. Email me at elle@twoweekwait.com with yours and I'll add it to this page. (It feels good to get it out in the open and know that you're not alone!) "LAUNDRY LIST" OF CONFESSED HABITS IN THE 2WW!!! - I gave my follicles "pep talks" in the car on the way to work. I promised to buy them ponies if they would just fertilize. (I lied) - I gave DH's sperm "pep talks" just before BD. I told them they wouldn't have a curfew if they would just penetrate one of the follicles. (I lied) - I keep a bottle of baby powder next to my pre-natal vitamins. Every morning when I take a vitamin, I take a whiff from my baby powder. I thought it might give me the same effect as that old adage about "smelling a baby." - I also washed my hair with baby shampoo and used a baby soap and lotion every day. I'm crazy, but hey - something worked! - I have a BUNCH of good luck charms sitting next to my bed; a doll baby, a plastic stork, and one of those worry dolls that you're supposed to shake when you're feeling upset (which I did). They're all sitting on a plate that belonged to me when I was a baby. - I make sure to sit up straight at all times. I get freaked that if I slouch while sitting, I might smush my fallopian tube, ovaries, and uterus... therefore causing conception not to take place. - In the 2ww, when I'm grocery shopping I just *have* to go down the HPT aisle even though I know I'm not going to buy any! I also go to the magazine section to scan for pregnancy magazines even though I know I won't buy one. - I won't lift anything in the 2ww heavier than a gallon of milk for fear that the baby will unplant itself and cause a early miscarriage. - I won't cancel my gyn appt. even though it is scheduled two days after AF is due in July -- what if I get a BFP and need to see her anyways?!?! - When I do kitty litter duty, I tie a shirt or one of DH's socks around my mouth and nose to make sure I don't breathe in anything that could harm the baby. - I won't wear my tight jeans, though they make my butt look sooo good. - I keep babydust from BabyHopes.com in each of my lamp drawers on our nightstands. - I make DH mow the lawn during my luteal phase, as the vibrations might dizzy his little soldiers, who are trying so diligently to penetrate the egg. - I don't allow myself to "view" or "come in contact with" a tampon. If I do, that would likely mean af is on her way. I keep them tucked away in a dark, dark area of the house, hoping I won't have to see them for another 10 months or so.... - In the tww, I won't do any type of exercise that requires jumping or abdominal work. I'm worried that it will keep it from implanting, or if it implants, it might knock it loose. - I won't let my dogs sit on my stomach like they like to do. I don't want any pressure on my lower abdomen. I can't really think of anything else I do. I'm sure there is some unconscious stuff, though. - I won't have an orgasm during the 2WW because I think it might push the egg out. As a result I rarely have orgasms anymore because the most we do it is during my fertile window, so I've basically screwed myself (no pun intended) out of enjoying sex. From now on, I'm going to just get my freak on because abstaining certainly hasn't helped. - I make DH do the cat litter during 2ww! - Sometimes when i go to bed I put my hands on my tummy area just in case it might encourage any implanation/faster swimming etc my theory is they are making it warm and its important to have a warm uterus etc.. (read that somewhere) - I still let my cats sit on me though for the same reason, they are a bit lighter than a dog mind!! Maybe their purring will encourage the little swimmers to swim longer/faster and meet and fertilize the egg? - Same thing about the dog in my lap (and my poor doggie looks at me utterly confused) Sorry pooch, mommy's a lunatic! - I hold my breath when pumping gas in the two week wait - I won't sleep on my stomach in the 2ww - No sex in the 2ww!!! (DH loves that one) - I do orgasm... that's too natural of a thing for me to be afraid it might upset implantation. And i can't go without it. No way. No how. - I am out of tampons but I refused to buy them because I didn't want to encourage AF. - I rub my belly in the shower, and sometimes, talk to it hoping to encourage implantation/growth! - DH hugs me and I think my boobs are tender, so until AF shows I am constantly grabbing and poking them to see if they really are tender. - I think I'm peeing lots more than normal, so I keep drinking liquids to see if I’ll wee more often. Do you see the trend in this habit?? - I am afraid to cough, sneeze, fart or BM in fear t more

I'm in my 2nd trimester of my first pregnancy and with this whole swine flu thing I am so worried! especially since there's now a case very near where i live! Resolved Question: Food during pregnancy......?

I keep thinking badly of myself for eating certain things. Can you all tell me if this is ok. I'm still taking all my prenatal vitamins every morning, cereal or toast for breakfast, maybe a jacket potato with cheese and cherry tomatoes for lunch and maybe some pasta with veg and a sauce, or chicken and rice with veg and a sauce for tea. Along with that though I am eating the odd yogurt or trifle, I am drinking smoothies too, apple, strawberries etc, but also eating chocolate, crisps, the odd cheeseburger, this isn't all in a day of course, it's just I am eating some rubbish along with good stuff. I'm just worried I shouldnt be eating any rubbish, or that I'm eating too much. I'm 17 weeks 4 days and so far have put on between 3 and 4lbs from what my pre-pregnancy weight was. I'm only concerned for my baby though, I know I'll put weight on, I'm just making sure that I'm doing ok with what I'm eating etc. Should I just chill a bit and eat what I want? more

Voting Question: Why have i been so selective of foods lately?

Lately, the past month or so, i have been wanting only certain particular genres of foods. I am pregnant, but i always thought that the cravings would be for things containing iron or vitamins at early stages of pregnancy, I have been wanting only fruit or milk products. any ideas for perhaps why? more

Resolved Question: the morning after pill, can t be taken with roaccutane?

The girl I'm in a relationship with is currently taking roaccutane (the vitamin A drugs for acne...), and has been told that pregnancy is not an option because of this (it's still possible for her to get pregnant, but apparently it would affect the baby...), and she can't go on the pill as a result of being on this drug. So in case anything were to happen, and a chance arose of her becoming pregnant, will the morning after pill still work? Can you buy them over the counter? And how soon after her roaccutane course finishes can she go on the pill? With me being a guy I know very little about these things lol... It's just that pregnancy isn't an option at this point in our lives (not that I honestly wouldn't mind bringing a child up with her at the moment) as her life in general would be adversely affected... Thanks in advance for the help :) more

Resolved Question: two negative tests - can you please give me some advice, practical and emotional?!?

My partner and I are ttc. I had my implant out in the first week of february. I had the implant in for just over a year and it was great for me, but I stopped my periods completely. AF then arrived on march 17 (35 days after implant out), the symptoms I experienced were the same as before I had the implant fitted and lasted the normal 4 days. Before the implant my cycle lasted between 28 and 30 days. Therefore if things are back to normal I should of had AF turn up last week. I think I have been having symptoms of pregnancy - my breasts are very sore and nipples have changed colour and size (and white spots have come up around the nipple) - sorry if tmi. I am very tired, feeling run down and just managed to get a cold... yey! I am getting indigestion (which I rarely get) when I have not eaten and am getting the odd af-like pain but without the other AF feelings of "heaviness". So, like anyone in my position I bought a twin pack of boots Home Pregnancy tests - I took one last thursday afternoon - negative. I took the other on monday - negative. Now, I need a bit of advice. I know the best thing to do is wait and see what happens, but want an explanation as to why I am feeling like this... and we are very keen on having a baby soon. Something I do feel I need to mention is that I am currently weaning myself off medications for Bipolar disorder. This includes Lithium which does make me drink more water than usual and as a result I get up to go to the toilet a few times at night (so morning tests might not neccessarily be better). I am taking folic acid and other vitamins (before anyone asks). What would you lovely people recommend? Any words of encouragement would also be very appreciated.Zeanna - Don't worry I know all about lithium. I also that the risks are not as great as you have suggested. I have done ALOT of research into this. I know that there are a lot of women who have carried on with their lithium through pregnancy and have had no problems. I have chosen that I would prefer to be lithium free. It's my choice. I am now on 200mg (down from 1200).Circe - You are a total idiot troll!! I may suffer from bipolar disorder but I managed to put myself through a four year degree at uni (I got a 2.1) in which I also held down a part time job to fund my studies. I have since worked full time in various responsible positions and my diagnosis has had very little effect on my working life. I am not ignorant enough to say it has had no effect because it has, I recognise my illness and my limitations. I was only placed on meds in november last year so I know how to survive off them. I am now 27, my partner and I are engaged, we have been together 4 years and have been talking about extending our family for at least 2 years. We were going to get married this year but decided to buy a house instead. We both want a child and believe we will be very responsible and fun parents. I do plan to return to work so no, you will not be paying for my offspring! Phew - had to set the record straight there!Zeanna - do you actually know anything about Bipolar disorder? If you do then I don't think you would throw it willfully in with schizophrenia and addiction. Schizophrenics have issues with telling fantasy from reality and need medications to help control their hallucinations. Lithium is used to stabilise mood in bipolar.... It is a mood disorder and can therefore can be treated in a number of ways, the ideal being that of recognition and prevention. I have been responsible and recognise my triggers and I am lucky enough to have a wonderful family who are able to help me out when I need it. I am not a drain on the NHS - I am activley in control of my illness. I know that I have more chance of post natal depression, but I am lucky that I can recognise the signs and have others around me who also recognise the signs. Actually there is a high percentage of women who actually do better post natum. more

Resolved Question: Should I try for natural birth or have c-section?

Hello I have a little Boy who is three and I gave birth to him naturally BUT he was a big boy at 9 and a half pounds. I am 56" and about 8 stone so it was hard to carry him and towards the end of the pregnancy I was in agony, I didn't know it at the time but I had pubis symphasis dysfunction. The labour was awful I had an episotomy and his head almost didn't come out, I had a ventouse suction cap. With all that said, I healed in two weeks, snapped back and breastfed quite happily. Now I am 31 weeks and on crutches, I did loose a baby last year at 27 weeks and had to give birth, again I had the PSD but earlier as with this pregnancy. I now am on crutches and cannot walk or sleep properly, it is agony everyday and they tell me the babies head is measuring big for my dates and for my pelvis so I have to have another scan at 36 weeks, they say this baby (a Boy) is looking to be big but I do not know what to do for the best? My PSD is severe and the pain is never ending, should I opt for a c-section, ask for early induction or just put up and shut up (ouch) and is it possible to breastfeed after c-section? Sorry if I am rambling on I fainted today and the stress of the situation is making me ill. Also I would like to add apart from the problems mentioned I am very fit and healthy with lots of fresh fruit and fibre, water and vitamins, the big babies are just hereditory (I was 10 pounds!) Any advice from Mums would be great and thanks so much :)Thanks for all the advice, I don't think I can carry to term I am in agony and I am vertually housebound. I have a very bad day today, I think I will opt for an early induction and try to give birth but it may out of my hands if baby is big. Thanks once again for the very good and open advice :) more

Resolved Question: Still confused about possible pregnancy?

I asked this question a couple of days ago... but AF is still missing! My period was due around the 5th April (give or take a day) and it still hasn't come. I have had unprotected sex (usually condoms were worn but have been forgotten on occasion). I don't really have any symptoms except for being absolutely shattered and feeling sick and then hungry and then sick again! I have also had period like pains, a little bit of heartburn and headaches for the past 3 weeks. I took a test on Sunday which was negative and I have made an appointment with the doctors in a weeks time (the only one I could get). In the meantime, what do I do? Do I just keep thinking that this is a late period? Or treat it as if I am pregnant and start taking prenatal vitamins, give up smoking and drinking etc? When do I test again? Any help or suggestions would be great as so confused!! more

Right? :)Thanks for all your answers :) I'm of course well aware that there are other methods of getting my vitamins. Resolved Question: My fiancè is 9 weeks pregnany and a vegan. She has no appetite, and I'm slightly worried.?

My lovely fiancè is only 9 weeks pregnant, and has a very small appetite. She's also a vegan so her food menu is very limited. I cook, and prepare small breakfasts/lunches and dinners for her but she wont't eat them. She wont eat any breakfas, not even a bagle or cereal, and usually only eats once a day (after work). She loves drinking cranberry juice, but hardly drinks water. I stress the importance of drinking water, eating proteins, and vitamins A thru Z. She is so stubborn and says that I am over reacting. I have now backed off, and now she eats chocolate candy and junk foods in my face. I bought tofu, fruits, granola bars and salads but she wont eat this vegetarian stuff. Im beginning to worry and getting pissed off in the process. I feel like I'm taking this pregnancy thing more serious than her. Now, i have stop stressing her, but she eats everything except what she should. She tells me this is normal and she is still early in her pregnancy, but i thought the first trimester was the most important, right??? Help me please, I'm a man in distress. more

Resolved Question: Please help - 6 weeks pregnant?

Hi everyone :) I am 6 weeks pregnant, and this probably sounds like a stupid question, but I can't seem to stop worrying about miscarriage :( I'm taking prenatal vitamins, cut out alcohol completely, and caffeine too, and I'm trying to eat more healthily, so the doctor said that based on that I should try to relax and not worry about it since I'm doing everything I should be doing. My main worry is that I don't have many symptoms at all, only headaches and mild cramps from time to time, which is worrying me incase it's not as "strong" a pregnancy as it should be! Has anyone here been without many symptoms at 6 weeks but went on to have a healthy pregnancy? At what point did everyone start experiencing nausea etc? If anyone could please answer with personal experiences it would really put my mind at rest :) Thanks! xxxx more

Resolved Question: Pregnancy stretch mark query!?

OK, i know i'm going to sound vain but i'm 37 weeks pregnant and in the last 2 weeks, I have suddenly become covered in dark purple stretch marks (I resemble a road map). I have spent an absolute fortune on bio oil, cocoa butter and some kind of vitamin E oil but none seem to have done the trick (although my midwife says in her 8 years of working, she has never felt such a smooth pregnant belly), I know it's vain as i'm lucky to be pregnant and have this life inside me, it just makes me feel really unattractive... Has any other women's stretch marks faded, and how long did it take?? Also, did any other woman get more stretch marks after they had given birth?? How do women with stretch marks feel about theirs (honestly)??? more

Resolved Question: dairy free pregnancy?

I veggie, and not vegan, but I have strictly restricted my intake of dairy for a long time, as I feel much better without it. However, since being pregnant I have craved yoghurt, milk and cheese, and eaten them all, as much as I want. But now I'm recognising the signs of too much dairy again- sore throats, head aches, so choked up on cattargh I can't speak when I wake up in the mornings! I had a severe respiratory tract infection in december and had a high temp for 2 weeks and was on strong antibiotics for 10 days, and don;'t want to go there again! Has anyone got any advice as to how to substitute all these things and get the vitamins and minerals my baby needs- normally I just don't eat any, I gave up soya when trying to get pregnant- is it safe to eat it again? Any advice greatfully recieved! Thank you! more

Resolved Question: 1st trimester and eating for developing baby?

Just wondering if the most crucial time during pregnancy for eating right is in the first trimester? Since the baby is developing its brain (especially) is this when we should be really eating well and having omega 3 etc? I am 8 weeks and haven't been eating bad, but I've been on a lot of carbs - bread and cereal, since that is what I can stomach the most. But then I thought, since the baby is developing now, isn't this when I should be really going hard with veggies and fruit and vitamins? I am on my multivitamin for pregnancy but I am mostly talking about their brain development. Have I missed the most important stage or is the whole pregnancy important for this development? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Allergic reactions during pregnancy and other worries?...?

Hi Everyone, Ok I'll be 8 weeks pregnant tomorrow...I am due to see the midwife this Friday which I'm pleased about as I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks and 5 days and it's been a LONG wait since then so I'm hoping midwife appt will break up the wait for the 12 week scan. Anyway I've been the one on the forum most days stressing out about the facts and figures over miscarriages...didn't help that first thing doc said was 1 in 4 pregnancies end that way. I'm 27 years old, I don't smoke and I haven't drank alcohol since October last year. I take Sanatogen Pre-Natal vitamins every day and have done since I found out I was expecting. I have very little caffeine..I don't drink coffee so my caffeine intake comes from the ODD fizzy drink or cup of tea...and chocolate. I haven't had any symptoms at all which has been a worry...no morning sickness, no breast tenderness (I did at the very beginning but it's stopped now)...no increase in the need to pee...no cravings..nothing at all! This has worried me as I've thought I should feel somewhat different... BUT...I've also not had any SEVERE cramps or bleeding.... I'm worried that same will have happened to me as what happened to my friend....she didn't bleed/cramp and went along to scan at 12 weeks assuming everything was grand and she was told baby had died at 8/9 weeks and her body didn't know!?!?!?! How likely is this?! Also...I flew to Sweden last Tuesday (2 hour flight) and I came back on Sunday. I had no problems on the flight there but on the way home, I had really sore legs and they were still sore yesterday through the day. Just felt heavy and cramped etc. Also whilst I was in Sweden, on Thursday, I woke up with a rash all over the tops of my legs, up my sides and on my chest and up my inner arms/wrists...my knees were red and swollen and my hands were red and very itchy and the rash in some places (particularly on wrists and breast area was large red blotches that were raised/swollen)...it's gone away since I've been home and I'm assuming it was an allergic reaction either to the pets in the house or the detergent on the bed sheets as it came up overnight and was worst when I was in bed. I didn't take anything for it as I know you can't when you're pregnant..I just rubbed aloe vera cooling gel on my knees to relieve the heat/itching but other than that I took nothing. I've no idea what I took a reaction to but I'm worried about how it may have affected my baby?! I'm fine now... All serious answers/advice would be greatly appreciated... Thanks all! :o) x more

Resolved Question: I really want to try to get pregnant again but just terrified at the same time?

As some of you may know, I had 2 miscarriages last year. One at 9.5 weeks and one at 7 weeks. I've given myself 3 months to recover physically and emotionally from my most recent miscarriage and me and my husband plan on starting trying again next month. I really really want to get pregnant and to have a baby, but at the same time I am absolutely terrifed at the prospect of it. I know that no matter how hard I try, I will find early pregnancy very stressful. Even the thought of it is stressing me out and I am having problems sleeping. Does anyone have any words of encouragement or advice for me? I know all about good pre-conceptual care by the way - I'm a Nutritionist and I specialise in this area! Me and my husband don't drink alcohol, smoke, drink caffeine etc etc and we have both been taking vitamins for over a year. I am also having some acupuncture. My doctor is not able to be of much help - I live in the UK and here nothing is done until you have had 3 consecutive miscarriages. Thanks in advance And no stupid answers please! more
