Resolved Question: I'm a pharmacy tech looking to get an associate's degree. Would a degree in Liberal Studies suffice?
To clarify, I did NOT attend school to be a pharmacy tech. I was hired by a chain retail pharmacy and had on-the-job training.
I would like to work in the pharmacy at a hospital some day, so I was looking at what qualifications I would need. Most hospitals in my area are asking for 3-5 years experience (working on it, haha) and an associate's degree (they didn't specifiy a major or an A.A.S. or anything).
I currently have 33 credits toward an associate's in liberal studies. Do you think that would suffice or should I switch to something else? Here are my limited options (community college, haha):
Accounting (A.S)**
Administrative Management (A.S.)**
Business (A.S.)**
Computer Assisted Drafting & Design (A.S.)

moreOpen Question: Where do you suggest I major in Graphic Design?
I will be a Senior in High School this upcoming school year. (I graduate in June 2010) I am looking to pursue a career in Graphic Design and wish to know of some schools that you believe are good schools for graphic design majors.
I eventually want to be able to run my own business doing graphic design.
Please give me suggestions (I am really wanting to go to RISD and if not there then maybe SAA)
If you're a student majoring in graphic design then tell me about your college/classes etc. (You can email me that information at contact@love-the-design.com)Also I live in Ohio so I prefer to not go as far away as California; (I'm nervous about going so far away, I wouldn't mind going out of state though)
moreOpen Question: Do you have to attend a 4 year college before attending RISD?
I really want to go to the Rhode Island School of Design to major in Graphic Design. I heard from someone that you have to attend a four year college before applying to RISD, is this true?
Thanks :D
Also any information from people who have studied there would be great as I want to find out more from the students, especially Graphic Design students.

I am planning on taking those subjects, and I am a sophmore in highschool but anyways (= I plan to stay in New York for my college careeeer. Anyone know any good schools because I want to start investigating them before it's too late! I know it's early and I shouldn't have to worry about this stuff but I'm very excited for college to be honest ( I have my reasons..) lol thanks in advanced.
moreOpen Question: A question about pursuing journalism in college...?
I have been involved in newspaper all through high school, and I've loved it.
As far as careers in that kind of a field, I would probably prefer some kind of copy editing or layout work... less reporting... more editing or visual kinds of things... probably also in a magazine setting rather than newspaper, but I'm not sure about that
Now I'm looking at all these lists of college majors...
should I be looking for journalism? communications? publications?
Are all these different majors really the same one?
or do I need to be getting even more specific and looking for graphic design or something totally different?

moreVoting Question: Help getting into college?
I'm a high school sophomore, and have just received my papers to go into summer school, after which I will be officially a Junior. Problem is, I will be the first generation in my family to complete high school in the US. I would like to go on to study fine arts, maybe a graphic design major, if I pick the NY Art Institute.
I need help planning out the next two years, so I can try for as many places as possible. My grades haven't been all that great, but I can pick them up quickly. My school is very competitive, tough mainly oriented in the medical fields so my guidance councilor is... useless, that would be the best word to describe her.
I need all the help I can get, any website, planner, any tips from art students...basically, you can fill in for my councilor. Thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it!
moreResolved Question: How is it possible to double-major in college?
I'm going to graduate high school in 2010, and I'm thinking of applying to a 4 year college in my area (San Jose State University). I want to major in Graphic Design, and minor in Singing/Music, that was my original plan, but I heard you can double-major?
How is this possible, and could I do it?Also, I took the SAT and got 1600 out of 2400. Is that failing? I'm thinking of re-taking it in October.
moreVoting Question: what should I major in?
I'm going to be a senior in high school in the fall, and I'm not sure what major I want. I'd like to choose one before choosing which colleges to apply to.
I'm interested in music, web design, graphic design, communications, journalism, english, entertainment, art, maybe education
Which of the above or similar majors have the most job opportunities? Also, what universities have the best web design/graphic design programs?
moreResolved Question: how can i convince my dad about my college choices?
I want to become a web designer, which is in the graphic design area, but my dad wants me to become a computer programmer (like him). I've decided to look for schools with both graphic design & computer science majors, but they aren't really the well renowned top comp sci schools of the nation (which is why my dad is against it).
My dad is forcing me to apply to schools WITHOUT graphic design (along w/ some that do) What do i do?

moreVoting Question: How well accredited is an online school. Specifically, Art Institute online division of Pittsburg PA for BA?
I'm entertaining the idea of enrolling into the Art Institute online division out of Pittsburg PA for a BA in graphic design. I'm just wondering if its worth the (close to) 70k dollars? It's suppose to have job placement but how well accredited is this school? How often would a person choose me over say UCNY for an art major with a Bachelors? Does anyone know this answer or have any suggestions to find this answer? The school admin doesn't seem to be the most helpful. Thank you and have a nice day!
moreVoting Question: Find a college & choose my major. Help?
This fall, I will be a junior in high school. My ultimate goal would be to work for Seventeen Magazine. I know it's difficult to get jobs in magazines, especially ones like Seventeen that a lot of girls are going after. So... I'm trying to be as well-rounded as possible to increase my chances of getting a job there.
I've been in advanced/AP English programs since the 7th grade, and have been enrolled in Journalism & Newspaper classes for the upcoming year. I plan on taking Newspaper again my senior year, along with Photography. I'm hoping to take graphic design/business management classes in college to help me become even more well-rounded.
I really need help finding a college that could help me become a good candidate for a job in this field. I've been looking for quite some time, but still haven't found anything that offers EVERYTHING I need.
So... if you have any ideas as to colleges that you think would be good for me, please post a link to their website here.
Also, please suggest a major/minor for me. I can't decide what I should major in so that I can increase my chances of getting a job in publications.
Thanks in advance(:By the way, if you can find somewhere in Texas that suits my needs, that's even better. My parents don't want me going out of state due to the extra cost for out-of-state students. They also don't want me to be too far away incase something happens.I'm not saying I HAVE to work at Seventeen. That's just my favorite magazine and I feel like it would be a good job for me. I'd be willing to take a job at any similar publication.I just took the matchmaker test, and the only one that came close to what I wanted was Texas Tech. I'll have to look into that one to see if it's really what I want.

moreVoting Question: What are the chances of being successful at Graphic Design?
I really want to major in Graphic Design, but I keep hearing how hard it is to find a job with all the competition there is. I'm going to take AP Design and Commercial Art in school this year. I'm not so great with computers, but I've been practicing with a tablet and photoshop and improving. Should I continue to pursue Graphic Design, or go for a more stable major?
moreResolved Question: How do I choose a major?
The money in my area of Northwest Florida seems to be in medical and computers. I am not passionate about anything but I am drawn to art. I started out as a photography major and took a break and am looking at going back. I really don't know what I want to do for the next few years of my life besides figure out what I want to do for the next few years of my life. If I get an artistic degree, the chances of my getting an art job are slim. I was looking into Graphic Design. Not only would I enjoy it but I've already taken a lot of those classes so I wouldn't have to start over. It will also be years before I get any degree--I have to work full time and 9am-7pm and night classes are going to be hard to find even with my schedule. I'm not leaving my job in this recession. A general degree would be much more difficult than an art degree and college is tough for me as it is. I'm not sure how to choose my major when I am not passionate about anything! I'm stressing out before I am even back in school.

I'm going to be heading to college in a year and really want to take Graphic design and environment. I just don't know if i can do that. I've already tried looking at posssible schools and i can't seem to find an answer. If anyone can give me an answser that would be awesome!
moreResolved Question: Should i major in architecture?
I am a bit weak in math, and I believe that it is not lack in skills but it is lack of practice. I understand that math is not memorizing, but math is based on practice. I consider myself weak in math because i tend to be careless about the subject. When an upcoming test is coming, I leave studying until the night before the test, knowing that i don't know where we are in the subject. It is not that i hate the subject, but i treat it like the rest of the subjects in school.
I am a junior, and next year a senior. I've been looking for a major that suits me. Law is in my consideration, where it is based on understanding law and memorization. Business and management, im taking a diploma course in school just in case. I like the subject, i understand it and my grade is 80%(85% equivelant) considering it's an IB course.
Architecture. I love designing. I love graphic and 3D designing. I know that it is somehow related to interior designing. I discovered that i liked the subject through Microsoft Visio, where we learned how to use the program in Computer class. As a final assesment, we were assigned a project where a customer would seek for us as architectures and want us to build them a house based on their requirment. I loved the project and my design was picked by the teacher so that i would make a model of it, and to be exhibited in the school lobby.
As a requirment of this course or major, i need mathematical skills and some science courses. I am willing to focus more on math and science courses. If i am willing to take this major, i am willing to focus more on it so that i would be qualified. So anyone tell me what you think i should do, or major in. I need after i graduate from school to take some courses, as next year would not be enough for me to take 3 science courses and 2 math courses, it would be alot of pressure in one year.
So again any help would be appreciated.
Thanks=)

moreResolved Question: Deciding to finish school and what direction to take..?
I am 22, have 60 college credits completed on an Economics major from FSU, I just moved to NY for my husband's job and I have been considering going to the NY school of interior design, as I really take a liking to the field. I worked for AIG while going to school previously and even though the pay is good, it doesn't excite me. Now though, I feel as if I'm at a crossroads transferring. Design school would take another 3 plus years and cost about 20k a year, Econ would take a year and half to finish and be better pay and cost less.
I am currently starting a design e-business and take care of my two year old son.
Should I finish Econ degree then go to design school or transfer now to design school and pursue the field?
My parents pressure a lot to finish economics, my husband has no opinion either way, wants me to do what I want as he did marketing and is an advertising exec, but secretly hates it and wishes he did graphic design, but that pay is low.
Long term goals would to own a design/furnishing company and acquire real estate.
I also have my Florida Real Estate License.
Any input from professionals of both fields or business owners would be appreciated. My father is a business owner with an MBA and continually reminds me I have all the time in the world, but I feel I need to get the ball rolling in the right direction, just trying to figure out which direction would be most career effective and cost efficient.I left out that- instead of a BS in Econ the interior design school would grant an BFA in Design...
Either way I plan on receiving my bachelors and attending grad school. I realize the importance of 'having a degree'.

I'm interested in Photography, Graphic Arts/Multimedia Design, Creative Design, Art, Sculpture, Teaching, and on a more general note I love to be outside and travel, I love the beach and being on the ocean, sailing, fishing, and just having a good time. Any Suggestions? Also if you could tell me a good college that had the major you suggest, let me know thanks

Hi, I'm an undergrad currently attending CCBC in MD and I'm earning my A.F.A in hopes of transferring to CSU Long Beach to get my degree in Graphic Design. My problem is that I want to major in Graphic design but I also want to minor in Japanese. CSULB only offers it as a major but CSU Los Angelas offers it in a minor but doesn't have a specific graphic design major.
Can you get a major from one campus and a minor from another if they're part of the same schools system? I know that in CCBC you can take other course at other CCBC campuses. Is it the same in California?

moreResolved Question: College (and potentially senior year of high school, if I can decide soon enough) computer: PC or Mac?
I'm finishing up my junior year in high school right now and am thinking about a new computer for college (and senior year if I can decide on one soon enough). Here's the main problem: I want to take some classes (and maybe major or minor in? But I have no clue at this point) in graphic design / cinematography / potentially other things that involve a good graphics system in a computer -- and I know that Macs are supposed to be pretty good for that. But at the same time, I'm also thinking about doing some programming courses, and of course playing some video games in my spare time -- I'm absolutely sick of my computer lagging me out of my games, but I know that a PC with a good graphics and video card could help prevent that.
I realize there are certain things I could do such as download emulators and whatnot, but I'm no computer whiz, so if this is recommended, please teach me about it. xD
So what do you think, oh wonderful Yahoo community?
If you need some more information to help make a decision, feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance! :D

moreResolved Question: Switching Careers Arts to Law advice?
I have an Associate of Arts and Associate of Science in Graphic Design. I am thinking about what I should major into for a Bachelors Degree, and I'm having trouble deciding. Originally, I had planned to get a degree related to the Arts like in Graphic Arts. However, the absolute lack of work, especially steady work scares me. I don't want to be a Freelancer, and finding a permanent job in Design is very tough. So I am thinking about eventually going to Law School. What kind of Bachelors should I get then? Poli Sci? Business? I am not so great with math, so business is a tough one, with stats and calculus.
Please Help! And please don't even bother telling me to stick with what "I like" I can't afford to do that.

moreResolved Question: Can a person be a graphic designer without a graphic design degree?
I am a student that has taken graphic design courses this year and I like it. I am in my second to last quarter of school and I am set to graduate with a Bachelors of Art degree. My graphic design teachers and upperclassmen G.D. students say my portfolio looks very good. My question is, if I graduate with the BA (General Arts) degree and Spanish (double major) and have a good portfolio, would it matter that I don't have the actual Graphic Design degree? I mean, doesn't your work speak for itself?
moreVoting Question: Artist becoming Accountant-?
I like drawing and anything involving art *except art history sometimes*. The problem is, living in California and having parents nagging you to get a proper major, I decided to become an Accounting major.
I'm currently in community college finishing requirements and hopefully by next year, I'll transfer to Cal State Fullerton and see if I can get in their accounting program.
Now here's the thing. I heard becoming an Accountant is boring as heck *it doesn't help that movies like to show how boring being an accountant is* but after taking Economics, I'm begining to gain interest and also, I think it would be interesting to work with taxes as an accountant.
But, I always wonder if I'm doing this because my parents wanted me to and because I know it'll give me a solid salary. I mean, when I was in high school, people thought I should go and be like a Graphic Designer or something, but I gave up that idea to my older brother who my parents had just gave up on *we're an Asian family so the eldest was expected to be the role model, but my older brother rebelled and I was the one who ended up with the burden of being the one with the proper major* and besides, after continuous lectures from my parents, everytime I think of changing my major to art, I think of starving artist on the streets *thanks to my parents -___-;;*
So, I need advice. Should I just continue with my accounting major and hope that eventually, I'll be happy with it or should I think about transferring to art, risking my parents' wrath and the fact that I might not have enough confidence to succeed? *and also competition with my older brother who's majoring in art* Is there a compromise? Like can I major in Accounting and minor in Art? *though I'm not sure if that's possible >>;; considering the art I like is drawing and designing, not art history*
Any advice helps *but please give me reasons on why I should stick with that advice, I don't want any "because it's better to take a major for fun rather than money" considering right now, the economy's erm...not doing that good*
moreResolved Question: How easy is it for an American to adapt to a life in Europe?
Right now I am a student in High School in Georgia, USA. The town I live in has a population of about 50,000. When I go to college, I plan to major in Graphic Design. I have looked at many schools around the world and most all of the ones I have liked are located in Europe. The ones I like the most are in Oslo, Norway, Stockholm, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Madrid, Spain. I am wanting to if the use of metrics, foreign currency, new languages, and a different lifestyle would be hard to adapt to. Also, I am open to a different culture, but I feel I may miss some American aspects of life. The place I want to go to the most is Oslo. Are there restaurants in Oslo that can be found in America? No just McDonald's and such but more casual restaurants as well. Is American television programming broad-casted in European cities (Oslo)? Also, are people in Europe friendly. I have heard many stories about Europeans being friendly, but I just want to make sure. This question is open to Americans who have visited Europe, live in Europe, or Europeans that live in Europe, or in America. Thanks so much for the help. Also, will I need to become a citizen of Norway to go to school there? If I do go I am planning on staying for about 3-5 years.

That's also in-state but there are no in-state colleges (California) that have both an advertising art BA and a graphic design BA. The only schools that have that are out of state colleges that are expensive and none of those states are appealing to me!
So, should I get my advertising art BA at one school and then attend another school and get my graphic design BA there?
Or what should I do? Any suggestions?

I'm a senior in high school, and i'm graduating in 2 weeks. I'm stuck between graphic design and nurse practitioner. I was thinking about either majoring in one, and minoring in the other, but thing is, they're so completely different. I'm willing to do all the studying and stuff that's necessary, i just don't know how many years i'm looking at. I researched it, and i looked around, but i didn't quite get what i wanted. I want to know what courses you'd have to take in college and how much time you need to put in. General difficulty from like 1-10 (haha), and also salary.
I know i don't have to know what i'm majoring in yet, because my first two years will be gen ed... but it'd be good to know.
Thanks :)
moreVoting Question: CAREER : SALARY VS. PASSION- INSPIRATION?
Ok , so im currently attending a vocational (HIGH) school majoring in the IT FIELD studying graphic/web design . Even though this field is very popular and vast among the money making economy (high earnings) & Im good at it - I find this more as an hobby because im good with computers and just got into it about 5 years ago .
However, ever since I was a little kid - i've wanted to be a veterinarian (predominantly small animals) . I have a strong passion for the nature of animals , saving their life's & caring for them . But i just realized veterinary studies is an competitive field but yet are one of the few careers who make low income and it takesss 8 years of school/training (WHICH I WONT MIND DOING) and seniority (experience in the field) to make an significant amount of money .
I'd rather work saving animals everyday, seeing smiles on peoples faces than sit in front of a computer everyday wearing my eyes out .
BUT HERES THE CATCH:
im not saying i want to be filthy rich but i would like to afford a few luxurious things in life and travel all around the world when i get older . I'm just not sure if being a Vet can support my leisure activities and future family that i may have like the IT field can.
Any opinions ?Ok im confused:
I hear the veterinary field is a low income job
and a high paying job ?
Which one is it - generally .
&I WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN THE US WITH THE JOB .
moreResolved Question: Stanford University? DO I have a Chance?
(You dont have to answer all the questions just answer what you can and thank you its apreciated)
I want to go to Stanford University to become a psychiatrist and major in psychology. Because one of the ways to become a psychiatrist is to go to medical school and then get certified by the board. SO ultimately I want to get into Stanford medical school (plus I am highley interested in other medical things besides psychology).
In 7th grade my GPA was 3.63 and in 8th grade it was still above 3.0
I am now currently a Freshman I was in a normal public school for the 1st half of the year I was in all honors courses, and I made the basketball team too (That would be my third year of being on my schools basket ball team two of which where higher level teams).
But for the second half of the year I am now in what's called Roads Advanced Academics Which is online high school courses (I did this for personal family reasons). And I was wondering how this could affect my chances of getting into Stanford? Currently my GPA is some where around 3.0 to 3.36 (I plan on increasing it in the years from here on out)
These courses are the same curriculum taught in normal high schools and you have to take all the same required tests and reach all the required credits to graduate (sometimes they offer honors classes but its rare). Since I am involved in this program I will graduate up to a year earlier than I would have in public high school, and I plan on graduating with an Advanced State Diploma, the normal diploma is 22.5 credits and you just have to pass required curriculum
The Advanced diploma is 24 credits with required curriculum plus 1 extra credit in a higher math and another in a higher science class, (Stanford likes bilingual people so foreign languages are a must that I’m trying to get). I will be about 17 maybe 17 ½ when I should be eligible to graduate.
If the schedule I have works out ideally it will look like this
Freshman:
0.5 English I A
0.5 English I B
0.5 World Geography A
0.5 World Geography B
0.5 Algebra I A
0.5 Algebra I B
0.5 Biology A
